What is Tungsten Carbide?
Pure tungsten is extremely hard and difficult to shape, which is why jewellery is crafted from tungsten carbide — a compound formed when tungsten atoms are combined with carbon atoms. This material retains the impressive qualities of pure tungsten, including its exceptionally high melting point, incredible tensile strength, and outstanding scratch resistance.
Our tungsten carbide rings are made from a premium blend of 85% tungsten and 15% jewellery-grade nickel, which acts as the binder. During the binding process, the nickel fuses so securely with the tungsten that it becomes non-reactive, making the ring hypoallergenic and comfortable for everyday wear.
Is Tungsten Carbide durable?
Tungsten carbide is one of the most durable materials used in jewellery — far stronger than gold, palladium, silver, or even platinum. It is exceptionally resistant to scratching, ensuring your ring maintains its flawless finish for years to come.
Unlike softer metals that bend under pressure, tungsten’s unique structure means it will crack or break only when subjected to extreme force. This brittleness is a natural property of the metal and a sign of its incredible hardness. With high-quality, jewellery-grade tungsten carbide, breakage is rare and will only occur under extraordinary conditions.
How does the durability of plated colours compare to natural tungsten?
Tungsten’s natural colour is a sleek silver. Any additional colours — such as black, rose gold, or yellow gold — are achieved through Ion Plating (IP), one of the most advanced surface finishing techniques available. In this process, the ring’s surface is bombarded with atom-sized energetic particles, creating a beautifully rich and durable coating.
While Ion Plating is highly resilient, all plated finishes will naturally wear over time. With proper care, however, the colour can last for many years. To preserve its brilliance, avoid exposure to hard water, harsh chemicals, and abrasive surfaces such as metal, wood, or tile. We also recommend removing your ring before applying lotions, perfumes, or antibacterial soap, as these can accelerate fading.
Why Choose a Tungsten Carbide ring?
Tungsten carbide rings are extremely scratch resistant and are more durable than many other types of traditional wedding ring metals like; gold, platinum, and silver. Tungsten rings are also resistant to corrosion or tarnishing and the do not require rhodium plating.
What is a comfort fit band?
Comfort fit bands are crafted with extra metal, creating a gently domed interior that sits more naturally against your finger for all-day comfort.
They’re especially popular with men, as the curved design glides more easily over larger knuckles, reducing friction and making the ring easier to put on and take off.
While comfort fit bands typically cost more due to the additional metal used, at Tungsten Titans we believe comfort should come standard — so you’ll enjoy this premium fit at no extra cost.
How is my Tungsten Ring order packaged?
All tungsten rings arrive to you in a luxury ring box packed in our strong shipping box so there will be no damage in transit from us to you.
How do I care for my Tungsten Carbide ring?
Tungsten is a strong durable metal, however it is not indestructible. Always treat your jewelry with care. Do not strike your ring with a heavy object like a hammer or dumb bell. Avoid dropping it on purpose. We recommend you remove your ring when lifting weights to avoid damaging it.
As with all jewelry, you want to limit its contact with harsh chemicals like ammonia and bleach. If your tungsten ring does come into contact with these, just rinse with warm soapy water and dry immediately.
Since tungsten is an extremely hard metal and scratch resistant, it is possible to damage your other jewelry made of softer metals and gold. We recommend that it is best to store your tungsten rings separately.
How do I clean my Tungsten Carbide ring?
Cleaning tungsten is very simple. All you need to remove dirt and grime from your tungsten ring is a few drops of liquid soap, warm water and a clean cloth. After you mix the soap and water, rinse well with clean water and dry immediately. Never use a harsh chemical to clean or polish tungsten.
Can a Tungsten ring be removed in an emergency?
It is a common myth that tungsten carbide rings cannot be removed during an emergency such as a swollen finger. They can be removed using regular jewelry removal tools or pliers.
