What is Tungsten Carbide?

Pure tungsten is too difficult to work with, so instead jewelry is made out of a blend of both equal parts tungsten and carbon atoms, thus creating tungsten carbide. Tungsten carbide rings have the same characteristics of pure tungsten metal including a high melting point and high tensile strength. They are extremely resistant to scratching. Our rings are made of 85% Tungsten and 15% jewellery grade nickel as the binder. Due to the binding process and combining both metals, the nickel binds so well with the tungsten that it loses its ability to react with the skin making a tungsten carbide ring hypoallergenic.

Is Tungsten Carbide durable?

Tungsten carbide is extremely durable, more durable than gold, palladium, silver or platinum. It is highly resistant to scratching but it does have brittle properties. This means that if enough pressure is applied to a tungsten wedding ring, the ring will crack or break instead of bending like, for instance, a gold or platinum ring. Tungsten rings made with quality grade tungsten carbide will not break unless extreme force is applied to the ring.

Are the plated colours on the rings as durable as natural tungsten?

Tungsten’s natural colour is silver, therefore any colours added such as black, rose gold and yellow gold are done so via Ion Plating. Ion Plating (IP) is a process where the surface of the ring is bombarded by atomic sized energetic particles. It is known as one of the most advanced surface finishing processes. Although Ion Plating has its expiration date, they can be prolonged if they are maintained properly. It is recommended to avoid hard water, chemicals, frequent contact with abrasive and hard surfaces such as metal, wood, tile, etc. Also, lotions, perfumes, and antibacterial soap can cause the plated colours to fade, therefore we recommend you remove your ring before doing any of the above.

Why Choose a Tungsten Carbide ring?

Tungsten carbide rings are extremely scratch resistant and are more durable than many other types of traditional wedding ring metals like; gold, platinum, and silver. Tungsten rings are also resistant to corrosion or tarnishing and the do not require rhodium plating.

What is a comfort fit band?

Comfort fit bands are made using extra metal to make the inside of the band slightly domed resulting in a more comfortable fit.

Comfort fit bands are recommended for men as they fit easier over a large knuckle when you are putting your ring on or taking it off due to less friction because it covers less skin surface area.

Comfort fit bands usually cost more due to the extra metal used but here at Tungsten Titans we do not charge anything extra for you to feel more comfortable wearing your ring.

How is my Tungsten Ring order packaged?

All tungsten rings arrive to you in a luxury ring box packed in our strong shipping box so there will be no damage in transit from us to you.

How do I care for my Tungsten Carbide ring?

Tungsten is a strong durable metal, however it is not indestructible. Always treat your jewelry with care. Do not strike your ring with a heavy object like a hammer or dumb bell. Avoid dropping it on purpose. We recommend you remove your ring when lifting weights to avoid damaging it.

As with all jewelry, you want to limit its contact with harsh chemicals like ammonia and bleach. If your tungsten ring does come into contact with these, just rinse with warm soapy water and set it on a towel to air dry.

Since tungsten is an extremely hard metal and scratch resistant, it is possible to damage your other jewelry made of softer metals and gold. We recommend that it is best to store your tungsten rings separately.

How do I clean my Tungsten Carbide ring?

Cleaning tungsten is very simple. All you need to remove dirt and grime from your tungsten ring is a few drops of liquid soap, warm water and a clean cloth. After you mix the soap and water, rinse well with clean water and set aside to air dry. Never use a harsh chemical to clean or polish tungsten.

Can a Tungsten ring be removed in an emergency?

It is a common myth that tungsten carbide rings cannot be removed during an emergency such as a swollen finger. They can be removed using regular jewelry removal tools or pliers.
